You will need either:
1) a serial cable (and possibly a USB to serial convertor) to use this software
OR
2) a USB A to USB A cable and the VCOM driver attached.
 
Some people report issues with the USB direct connection.  Generally related to lower versions of the operating system.   Use Home premium and above please!!
