Hi Shayne,

The cable pinout of the PC comms cable is:

       2 ----- 3
       3 ----- 2
       5 ----- 5
and solder the shield to the body of the connectors at both ends with a bit of heat shrink to insulate it from the pins of the connector.

The computer end is a Female db9 connector
The Register end is a Male db9 connector

The main thing is to make sure you pick up the right pin numbers on the back of the connector.  They are usually labelled on the front, but when you turn the connector around to solder it, pin 1 which may have been on the left of the front is now on the right at the rear...  And the pin numbers on the male and female are mirror image also.

You don't need to worry about which end is which when you are soldering it together as it is simply a crossover of Transmit and Receive wires with the ground going straight through.

You need a serial cable (and possibly a USB to serial convertor) to use this software
